RALEIGH, N.C. — Advocacy groups gathering downtown Monday will insist on legislators upholding Gov. Josh Stein’s vetoes of bills that would adversely impact North Carolina’s immigrants, undermine its clean energy, and make the state less diverse, equitable and inclusive.

The Sustain the Veto Rally will take place at 5 p.m. in Freedom Park, 218 North Wilmington St., and feature speakers from across the state’s justice and advocacy landscape. The event is organized by the North Carolina Black and Brown Policy Network in partnership with the ACLU of North Carolina, Carolina Migrant Network and Hispanic Federation.

Among the vetoed bills advocates will elevate are Senate Bill 558, Senate Bill 227, House Bill 171, Senate Bill 153, House Bill 318 and Senate Bill 266.

“Community voices were loud, clear and ultimately heard when we rallied outside of the governor’s mansion in order to secure the vetoes of these bills. Now, even more voices and even more volume are required to sustain them,” said Jovita Lee, Ed.D., convener of the North Carolina Black and Brown Policy Network.
