NCBBPN Rejects Discriminatory Constitutional Amendment
We, the North Carolina Black and Brown Policy Network, completely reject the proposed constitutional amendment in this year’s general election. This proposed amendment is an effort to create a false narrative around our immigrant communities and cause unnecessary doubt in our elections.
For more than a century, our state constitution has included language that ensures the freedom to vote for every person born in the United States and every person who has been naturalized. A rewrite does nothing more than sow discourse between our elected officials and those they are charged to serve.
Our network, as well as several other statewide partners, are united in opposition to this amendment. We will not give life to this discriminatory tactic intended to promote hate against our immigrant communities. Our elections are safe, and our efforts are better served, ensuring all eligible voters can do so this cycle without unnecessary barriers and roadblocks.
Together, we will vote AGAINST this amendment this election.
